This is the first oficial year of Amaury Academy and i already have a pretty busy year with many courses organised, specialy for now in August. This course i did in Vendee the last week was my first oficial training in France. It seems nothing but in few years i will always remember this course and i will always be thanksfull to the Inside Surf School and his owner Ghislain Vaginay.
I know Ghislain since a long time now..Firstly as one of the best french bodyboarder of his generation and today as a good friend who have a lot to teach me as he have his own surf school since ten years now.
Ghislain was in Canarys earlier this year and we were talking to organise this course in association with his surf School in France.
The beach were Ghislian works gets really busy in summer and it was a good timing to make this happen..even if the waves are not really consistent this time of year we had enough to have fun and to works some importants points that make the difference when you ride a wave.
I had the chance to work with a small group of riders. 8 guys with differents level of riding, styles and goals in the sport..Its super interesting to spend some time with riders from differents part of the globe. You can see the evolution of the sport, the new inspirations of the young kids and how they see bodyboarding today.
The first day of the course after a quick introduction chat we started jumping on our boards on dry sand to work on our hands positions, elbows, heads, fins..Everybody have his own style in bodyboarding and the training is not to change your style but to make it better and more efficent. We had some small waves this day but enough to watch the ¨style´´of everyone and to know which tips i should give to every riders one by one..
The second day we went surfing in the morning but as the surf was too small we did a good training on the beach…Everyone loved it even if it was a bit hard but its super important to be conscient of your body and how powerfull is the sport of bodyboarding..if you want to ride all your life you have to take care of yourself and stay focus physically to be ready for the next good swell to come.
We finished the day with a friendly contest with differents teams of two riders..one in bodyboard and the other one surfing. We had so much fun doing it, so many fun actions and with my friend Leo, our team finished second.. We organised a pódium at The Bud café closet o the beach, follow by a good restaurant with all the crew..
The Saturday, the swell was here and we did a good sesión in the morning. I could see some good stuff from all the riders and we could work a bit deeper that was great for some riders. In the afternoon we went in a park to have a good stretching. This is a bit part of the job, stretching, yoga, relaxation everything that give more conscient of your body is good.. Stretching your body helps to relax your muscles and prepare them for the next surf.
For the last day of the traning camp we had the chance to go to The Water Jump in the Indian Forest adventure park, close from the beach. A giant ramp that boost you at 20 ft high with your bodyboard, landing hardly on a pool next to it..A super fun way to practice some moves as backflips, invert and to visualize your body in space. After my first jump i was happy to have my full wetsuit and to wear the helmet that the security guys gave to us before entering as the landing could be really painfull sometimes!!
I would like to thanks all the people involved in this project. The first one of a long storie of friendship and passion for bodyboarding!! The sport needs structure and we have to build it from the base in every country for the future generations to come.
Keep focus guys, training hard and finding the balance on your board, in your life…
