Dakar, Senegal, West Africa...What an awesome place to organise a course with my Academy! Since a long time now im hearing about this country and the local bodyboard community overthere. Senegal has been a french colony for many years and the first riders brings some boards from France back in the 80´s. Since then many riders are cruising on the coast of Dakar, the capital of the country. This city has the best set up to receive all types of swell and because of the shape of the coast, there is always a part of the coast with offshore wind.
The first guy i met from Senegal is Aymeric Sanghor, one of the best rider from the country. I met him in Reunion Island few years ago when he came to live there for 4 years. Since he came back to Dakar he opened his bodyboarding and surfing school called SENEGLISS.
He contacted me few month ago to see if i was keen to come in Senegal to organise a course with my Academy. As i never came in Dakar i was super exited to come and meet the local bodyboarding community. I knew there are good waves there but the potentiel is endless as the coast is totally empty for riders.
I stayed there one week. The first few days i had the chance to surf some really fun waves on a ¨secret¨wedge in town, one of the best bodyboarding wave around..We also went more up north and we surfed some nice beach breaks.
The Academy was during the week end. The waves were a bit small but enough to have fun and to practice. We had almost 20 riders for the course, from 9 to 40 years old which was amazing! The kids that are training with Aymeric have some good skills, riding with style and i could feel the motivation of the crew. I was pretty surprised of the level of riding there and some of them could have a great future in the sport!
We did some technical training in the morning, surfed Vivier, one of the most famous spot of the zone. This spot was pretty much our base for the course, such an awesome set up with a little bar on the beach, La Cabane du Pecheur, and the wave breaking super close in front of it.
On the saturday night we organised a party with one of my board to win. An amazing moment of laughs and happiness, all the generations together having fun! Congrats to Medi who wins my customs board...
Im super thankfull for how people has been taking care of me during this trip!! One of my favorite destination for sure and hopefully i will come back soon with a good swell!!
I wish you guys the best and i will see you really soon in the water!! Jërëjëf!!!
