Africa!! Such a magical, mystical and inpredictible place where you could find pretty much everything you want depends on where you are. After this Academy i organised with Senegliss in Dakar, Senegal, in january, this one was one of the most cool course i could imagine! I remember meeting Rudy Thomas, a rider from Cote d'Ivoire, during the OGM course last year in France. He was telling me about the potentiel of the coast in his country and how could it would be to organise something..Sincerely i was interesting about it but i never thought it could become a reality one day. Jerome Boudon, a good friend of Rudy, contacted me and we organised the first bodyboarding academy in Cote d'Ivoire. So less than a year after that i was landing in Abidjan to spend 3 days in the zone to make a course and to participate to the Africa contest in Assinie, a beach close to the city. The famous rider from Senegal, Aymeric Sanghor was there too and it was good to spend more good times with him!! All the locals riders received me so well. We had the chance to stay at the RipCurl surf camp on the beach and to enjoy this really cool and natural place with super fun waves.
The first day of the trip we had the Academy with almost 20 riders from 7 to 40 years old, all together, learning and sharing experiences. I was super stoker to be able to share my knowledge with all this people, having so much fun and feel the potentiel of a great bodyboarding community!!
On the second day Jerome organised The Africa Contest, a local event with bodyboarding and surfing for Open and kids. A long day where i had so much fun competing in prone and DK against the local guys. We finished the day with a really good time for the podium and specialy when Joshua, Rudy's son, won one of my customs boards that i bring on this trip!!
The day after we were all pretty tired and we spend the day cruising, driving on the beach looking for waves and enjoying this paradise.
On the way back to Canarys, i had to stop in Dakar for one night and it was a good occasion to see some of the locals riders and spend some time with Aymeric at his home.
A big thanks to everybody for this amazing experience! I really hope to come back next year for a second Academy and more good times with this awesome local community!!
